Lexington Road Trip Report (in progress) 11 Months, 1 Week ago Karma: 0
I'll nearly certainly drop all this on the front page in some form or another when I get back tomorrow afternoon, but if you guys are in Lexington and happen to take a peek at this, we hit deSha's last night.

It'd down in the midst of everything. We had a long (hour and a half) wait, but the bar had all the bourbon you can imagine, and the bartender was very knowledgeable about it. He recommended something called Rare Eagle (from the Buffalo Trace Distillery) and we polished it off rapidly. Hopefully not the last time this season we down a rare eagle...

Finally, our name was called, and we were seated. The appetizers were fantastic. The table had the stuffed mushrooms, the stuffed banana peppers and the bar crisps. Winners all around. The banana peppers would be my #1 recommendation - only because I've never seen them anywhere else.

Salads were next - the dressings were great (especially the blue cheese). Other than that, the salads were nothing to write home about. A couple of folks at the table ordered the lettuce wedge, and had nice things to say about it.

The entrees did not disappoint. The rib eye was more than serviceable. Tasty and cooked to perfection. I subbed the cheese grits for the baked potato - WOW. They were great.

Another guy ordered the filet - and that was a better choice. It was also cooked perfectly, but was in some sort of reduction sauce that was fantastic.

We were all too full for desert, but I finished off the evening with a Kentucky Bourbon Barrel Ale. Delicious. I was concerned it'd be a little too dark and smoky, but instead it was malty and smooth. Recommended.

The brunch plans aren't going to work (apparently the folks in Kentucky don't understand that you can't have brunch starting at 11 and make a 12:20 kickoff), so Cracker Barrel is on tap here in a few, followed by much postgame revelry down near the stadium.

ROLL TIDE!
