Alabama had four different players attempt a pass and seven total guys take a snap as a defacto quarterback during the 2009 season. Thankfully, though, there was never a quarterback controversy. As far as this position is concerned, it was all Greg McElroy.

After Saturday's historic Heisman Trophy presentation, it looked as though the wave of honors for the Alabama football team might calm a bit before picking back up in early January.
Instead the 2009 Alabama football team has set a school and NCAA record by having six members named first team AP All-American.
It's been a year of historical accomplishment for the Tide. How historical? (I believe I heard someone ask) That's an interesting question...

It's taken 75 years and 96 first team all-americans for Alabama to have one player recognized as the most outstanding player in college football. Mark Ingram is Alabama's first Heisman Trophy winner!
Head on over to ESPN.com to view the announcement video, including Mark's acceptance speech.
An incredibly classy young man has made his entire family, and the entire Alabama family very proud.
Congratulations, Mark!
Roll Tide! |

After Alabama stopped Florida on third down, I was making a T with my hands and screaming "timeout" with 2:01 left in the first half. Instead, Alabama let Florida run the clock down 40 seconds before kicking a field goal, and then ran the clock out on the first half with dive plays, giving Florida the chance to get the ball to start the second half and then drive down the field to take the lead.
The more I thought about that, the madder and madder I got. I got so mad I didn't really pay any attention to the second half. How bad did they beat us, anyway?
But seriously, folks . . . . Let's talk about the game.

The trophy room in the Mal Moore building is going to have get a little bigger.
After seeing four players named first team All-American last week (Mark Ingram, Mike Johnson, Rolando McClain, Terrence Cody), the #1 ranked Alabama football team has had another big week for honors and awards.

The folks at our Bloguin brothers the Blue Workhorse have asked us to submit a ballot for the Sports Blog Heisman trophy... and we're glad to oblige. When talking about postseason awards, the Heisman is clearly the grandaddy of all the awards. And, it's the one that has eluded Alabama throughout its storied history. Alabama's highest finish in Heisman balloting was in 1993, when David Palmer finished third. Alabama and Tennessee are the only schools in the top 10 in all time victories to never recieve the trophy.
This year, Alabama has the best shot in many years with tailback Mark Ingram among the finalists for the award. What would my ballot look like?
