The Alabama football team worked in shells on Monday night during the final practice of two-a-days. The Tide will have one more practice on Tuesday afternoon that will be considered part of fall camp, and then school begins on Wednesday. At that time the roster will expand and Alabama will begin real preparations for game opponents.

The final day of two-a-days is here for the Alabama football, and they worked in full pads during the morning practice on Monday. Saturday's scrimmage left a bad taste in the mouth of everyone that plays defense, but it's not quite time to panic yet. Not only are the standards set exremely high, but there is also another three weeks of practice before the Tide will hit the field for the first time in game action. This morning practice was about rejuvinating intensity.

It's scrimmage day today! The good news is that there are published statistics. The bad news is everything else. The stats are probably cooked, and they're incomplete for sure. They're also tainted by the fact that there are contrived situations that contribute to the numbers (goal line, two minute drills, and other "situational" drills). Also, media weren't allowed during the actual scrimmage, so we have to base what we know on those stats and what Nick Saban tells us.

Not surprisingly, the offense is way ahead of the defense. There are obviously lots of reasons for that - the offense is more experienced and that's a factor. But another factor that contributed there was our first injury news of the fall camp.

Thursday is another day of two-a-days for the Alabama football team, and the first practice was held outside in the morning heat. The practice was in full pads, and was more eventful for the off the field news that came out during the practice than for anything that happened on the field.

The Alabama football team headed inside the Hank Crisp Indoor Facility on Wednesday - the first time they've practice inside this year. There was no rain in the area, so my best guess is that the staff wanted to get the guys a little bit of a break from the extreme heat. The squad was in full pads, and with the practice falling smack in the middle of the hottest time of the day, getting out of the sun was probably a good idea.

The biggest news today is not who's at Tide practice, but who isn't - not today, not for a good while. NFL scouts are locked out of Bama's practices. This is likely part of Saban's campaign against rogue agents.

Give 'em hell, coach.

Better news - Alabama is once again on the cover of Sports Illustrated:

It was also announced Tuesday that Alabama will be the focus of one of four regional cover for Sports Illustrated's 2010 college football preview. Dont'a Hightower, Mark Barron and Marcell Dareus grace the Alabama cover as part of SI's defensive theme.

It marks the eighth Sports Illustrated cover for the Crimson Tide since head coach Nick Saban arrived prior to the 2007 season and the fifth since the beginning of last season.

Think that Saban guy has Bama on the right track? More after the jump.
