About the time Alabama capped off a 10-quarter streak of uninspired play by taking only a 13-10 lead over the hapless Vols to intermission, all that second-title-in-a-row cockiness of the early season started to seem like a distant memory. But never mind, it's back now, after a dominating second half sent the Tide to its bye week on a welcome confidence-building note. no comments

I've been a bad BlogPoll voter.  After a two week hiatus from the poll because of things you don't care about, I'm back. And yes, I've got Auburn as the number on ranked team in America. They've put up when others (including the Crimson Tide) have shut up. They've got a win over an LSU team that is as good defensively as any in the country - and Auburn made their defense look bad.

Cam Newton is the most valuable player in America by a long shot. Auburn is probably a 4-4 team without Newton. Lots of folks have talked about how good offensive coordinator Gus Malzahn is, but the fact of the matter is Newton is clearly what makes this offense go. That's not a dig at Auburn, but a statement about how good Newton is.Auburn has won 4 games by one score or less. Do you think Newton adds at least 6-8 points each week? Yeah, he does.

One other quick thought on Auburn - they better look out in Oxford. Strange things can happen in Vaught-Hemingway Stadium, and if Auburn is reading too many of their press clippings, they could become the fourth straight number one to go belly-up. They could also pound the Rebels into a fine sand (which is probably what they'll do).

Full poll is after the jump.

My apologies for getting this up so late.  It was crazy at work this week.  At my age, it takes a very limited number of all-nighters at work to throw a monkey wrench in your schedule.

Anywhere, for the record, here it is, and it might be brief but at least I'm getting it up before the next game! no comments
