We continue to suffer through unbearable heat in Tuscaloosa. At least it's so hot and dry my grass won't grow - I sure don't want to cut it in this heat. It's nearly too hot already for me to post some quick morning notes:
Corey Grant and Petey Smith are both transferring out (and these guys are - no surprise - losing their religion about it). Neither of these guys was going to see the field in a meaningful role anytime soon, and they've both apparently decided they'd rather play college football elsewhere than watch it with great seats here. It happens lots of places, and it is what it is (you'd be surprised how often that's the case). Smith is reportedly headed to junior college, while Grant may be headed to Auburn. Stay tuned on that one.
Alabama at Penn State has a kickoff time - 2:30 pm CST. That's good news for folks who can't find a place to stay in State College, PA - you can easily drive from further out both before and after the game.
We've not posted since both Alabama baseball and softball ended their respective seasons. The softball team flamed out in an especially painful way - dropping back to back games to Florida at the Women's College World Series. The first of those was a 16-2 pounding. Coming into that game, Bama was undefeated in the World Series. Alabama just needed one win in two games to advance to the final and could not get it done. The baseball team was in the Tallahassee regional and defeated by FSU on a game that ended Monday morning (due to rain).
Three Bama Baseball players were selected in the MLB draft this week. Adam Morgan (third round, Phillies), Taylor Dugas (eighth round, Chicago Cubs) and Nathan Kilcrease (30th round, Oakland) were chosen. Kilcrease is a senior, but Dugas and Morgan can either go ahead with their pro careers, or remain at Alabama for their senior seasons. Two signees were chosen as well. Congrats guys.
