The Alabama football team practiced on Tuesday after the players had consecutive off days on Sunday and Monday for the first time since the beginning of school. The practice in shells was the first for the Tide during this off week.
Here's what you need to know:
The injury situation is improving, especially with D.J. Fluker. The big man was actually cleared to play against Tennessee, but the staff elected to hold him out to give him more time to heal. Fluker was back in a white jersey, but he was working behind Alfred McCullough. Expect him to be back in the starting lineup for LSU.
Chris Jordan was able to play against the Vols, and he was able to practice today, indicating that his hamstring injury is likely behind him.
Eddie Lacy missed the Tennessee game, but he was able to practice today. The staff hasn't indicated exactly what the problem is, only that it was a lower leg injury. He should be good to go for LSU.
Dequan Menzie missed the Tennessee game and was held out of practice today with a groin injury. He rode a stationary bike alongside Wesley Neighbors, who sprained a foot against Tennessee. Both guys should be okay by the time next week rolls around.
The staff is planning to use this week to work on fundamentals and on future opponents. Auburn and Mississippi State run a similar style of offense, so that means that Bama will be working on dealing with the spread. The Auburn offense is certainly more prolific with Cam Newton at the helm, so Blake Sims will likely continue to get a lot of work as the scout team quarterback.
The team won't completely ignore LSU this week, and you can expect that by week's end they will have turned their focus completely to the Tigers. Fortunately there is some cross over, as the LSU offense with Jordan Jefferson features a good bit of the quarterback running the football.
More so than anything else, this week will be used to allow the guys a bit of a break. There will likely be guys sit out during periods of practice that would practice fully if there were a game this week. We will also likely see some of the younger guys that have not had a lot of opportunities get some work with the first unit.
Once Monday rolls around, all of the resting an experimenting will be over, and the focus will be squarely on LSU.
Bama will practice again on Wednesday, and we'll have our normal report.
