The only time of the year when Monday is a good day… is the Monday that brings in the first week of real football. Armed with an actual depth chart, the Tide team took to the field today to begin final preparations for the season opener against Clemson.
Memorable Opening Games
APRIL is the cruellest month, breeding
Lilacs out of the dead land, mixing
Memory and desire, stirring
Dull roots with spring rain.
T. S. Eliot
I’ll bet T. S. Eliot never lived in Tuscaloosa. If he had, he’d know better than some nonsense like that.
April might get a little warm, but August hits you with a heat haymaker right when [...]
Great News for Bama Hoops
In what had begun to be a somewhat scary situation regarding his academic status, Alabama basketball signee Tony Mitchell was finally able to enroll in classes at Alabama today.
Mitchell, a 6′6 swing man and 3-pt specialist was the #38 player in the nation last year according to Rivals.com.
The Depth Chart: A Closer Look
There are definitely some interesting things in the depth chart release of the university today. Some guys who were thought to be doing well are not listed, and others who have been working with the scout team are.

Official Depth Chart
Check back later today for analysis on the chart and for a printable flip card.
Here is the official depth chart as release by media relations today:
Nick Fanuzzi Leaves the Team
Nick Fanuzzi has left the team. He’ll be transferring elsewhere, looking for a chance to play.

We wish him nothing but [...]
Position Profile: Special Teams
Alabama’s special teams return almost completely intact from last year. Starters Leigh Tiffin (kicker), PJ Fitzgerald (punter/holder), Javier Arenas (returns), and Brian Selman (long snapper) all return, which should give the Tide some stability in a part of the game that typically makes a larger impact on the game than the casual fan realizes.
The big [...]
Match-up Analysis: Clemson Offensive Backs vs. Alabama Defensive Backs
Getting us ready for the Labor Day version of the Chic-Fil-A Bowl, all this week we will be breaking down the position match-ups for Alabama-Clemson. Let’s analyze, shall we?
Clemson offensive backs/receivers vs. Alabama defensive backs/linebackers
Alabama Ranked in the Top 5 in the Conference
In Academics.
Sorry.
US News and World Report has issued their annual rankings of “National Universities” and it makes for some interesting reading. Alabama is ranked 4th among SEC schools at 83rd nationally. It’s not a surprise that Vanderbilt tops the list of SEC schools. It may be a bit surprising, though, to see the balance of [...]
