We weren't invited to participate in the Garnet and Black Attack SEC Power Poll (the definitive SEC Blog Power Poll), so we'll initiate a weekly SEC Power Poll in this spot. No sour grapes here - we're going to assume that it's because we were too new when the season started. All four of our authors voted and we've combined the polls to some interesting results. So, here we go... We awarded 1 point for a first place vote, 2 for a second and so on. Then we ranked the teams in descending order. Here are the totals. 1. Georgia (2) - 7 1. Florida (2) - 7 3. LSU - 12 4. Auburn - 17 4. Alabama - 17 6. Vanderbilt - 25 7. Ole Miss - 27 8. Tennessee - 33 9. Kentucky - 35 10. South Carolina - 41 11. Arkansas - 43 12. Mississippi State - 48 And, we start with a tie at first. Glen and Crump had Florida first; nxojkt and I prefer Georgia. Glen rated Georgia 3rd and nxojkt rated Florida third. Therefore, it's a tie. The bottom five in the conference were more or less a consensus, with some small differences in Arkansas or South Carolina for 11th. Mississippi State was the only consensus team in the poll - everyone had them dead last. Alabama claimed second on Glen's ballot; the balance of us had Bama fifth (although Crump wanted desperately to see Bama and Auburn tied for fourth - wish granted). Vanderbilt and Ole Miss were six and seven on all four ballots. The differences were only in which was which. Same story with Kentucky and Tennessee - everyone had them eigth or ninth. We'll release our poll (hopefully earlier in the week) each week of the season from here on in. Leave us your thoughts in the comments area.
