We've not discussed the Kenny Stabler DUI situation - if you're short opinions on the topic, check here, here, here, here or here (EDIT: or my new favorite here) - but yesterday Nick Saban issued his first statement on the issue:
"Kenny Stabler has been a great ambassador for this university," Saban said. "We support Kenny. He does a great job on our (football) broadcasts and we're hopeful that this (arrest) doesn't have a negative effect on his future with our organization. He's a good guy. I love him and I wish he could be here today."
Saban was speaking at his Nick's Kids golf tournament in Tuscaloosa. What will Saban's support mean? Well, it's not Saban's decision at the end of the day. However, Saban's support gives Learfield Sports-ISP (the folks who own Crimson Tide Sports Marketing) political cover if they'd like to keep Stabler on as part of the broadcast. The decision making power really lies with the CTSM and their ownership. I wouldn't expect this process to move very quickly. Stabler has yet to be convicted and has indicated that he's "looking forward to his day in court". We'll see what this story has to offer as it continues to develop.
