Travis Sikes - #48 – DB – 6-2 – 194 lbs. – Nashville, TN – Christ Presbyterian – No Varsity Letters It would be very easy to tell you to just look back at the profiles of Sam Burnthall or Charlie Kirschman for a profile of Travis. He is another player that is willing to do everything possible in order to help his team win, but simply lacks the athleticism to compete on this Alabama football team. He did see action in 5 games last year, all on special teams, but failed to record a tackle. A player like Charlie Higgenbotham used special teams play last year to propel him into a potentially larger role in 2008. Travis’ limited work, without success, there in 2007 will likely not put him into a position to have a larger role. He has changed positions several times, trying to find somewhere that he can contribute. And aside from scout team work, there just hasn’t been a role that he can fill. That is at not fault of his, however, as he is a very hard worker. 2008 Prospectus:    It is unlikely, given the influx of new talent on board at Alabama that Travis will be able to make the jump forward that he failed to do last year. He has the opportunity to play more on special teams, but that will likely be the extent of any action that he sees. The fact that he did not take advantage of his opportunity to makes plays with a diminished roster on A-Day tells me that it is highly unlikely that he’ll find his way into playing time in 2008. Given the fact that under Nick Saban Alabama’s overall talent level is more likely to rise than decline, it is unlikely that those chances will improve beyond 2008. Similar to both Burnthall & Kirschman, Travis is a potential candidate for attrition in either 2008 or 2009.
