Colin Peek - #84 – TE – 6-6 – 260 lbs. – Jacksonville, FL – Bolles & Georgia Tech - Transfer Colin transfered to Alabama prior to the Spring 2008 semester from Georgia Tech. He played well for the Yellow Jackets, but under new head coach Paul Johnson, he simply didn’t have a position. He's got the tools to be a "complete" Tight End, with the hands and speed to be an effective receiver and the size and strength to be a good blocker. We saw a little of this during A-Day, but with his eligibility still in question, he didn't get a ton of looks. He has appealed to the NCAA for immediate eligibility, but at this time that appeal appears to be unlikely. So he probably will sit out the 2008 season, and be near the top of the list of candidates for the starting TE job as a Senior in 2009. Regardless of his eligibility for 2008, he will count towards Bama's 85 scholarship total. 2008 Prospectus: Until I hear otherwise, I am going to assume that Colin will sit out the 2008 season. Being ineligible to play under transfer rules has no bearing on his ability to practice, however. Having someone this versatile and talented on the scout team should do wonders as the Bama defense prepares for teams with a big threat at TE. That is certainly not the ideal situation for Colin that being eligible and playing would be, but he'll have to make the most of the situation. If he somehow wins his appeal and is eligible to play, he'll immediately join Nick Walker and Travis McCall in the TE rotation, and will even let McCall play some at H-Back, possibly getting all 3 guys on the field at the same time. That would immediately improve Bama's goal line offense, but also give Jim McElwain more options with his big guys at any point on the field.
