Coach Saban announced today that 3 walk-on players have been given athletic scholarships:
Kicker
Leigh Tiffin
Punter
P.J. Fitzgerald
Defensive Back
Tyrone King
Congratulations to these three young men for earning this honor. One of our readers,
gorilla, actually told us about Tiffin & Fitzgerald a few days ago in the comment section (good call there, by the way). King isn't a huge surprise given the fact that he played ahead of
Justin Woodall at times last year & the fact that he had a good spring & fall camp.
By our numbers that means that the Tide is at either 84 or 85 players on scholarship, dependent on whether
Wesley Neighbors is on the Bryant Scholarship. We're going with the theory that he is, based on the fact that until he plays there is no reason to not have him take advantage of it. So we'll say that the number is 84.
This could theoretically impact Bama's scholarship numbers situation for next year, but I'm guessing that, similar to this past year, Nick Saban has a plan.
