In Academics. Sorry. US News and World Report has issued their annual rankings of "National Universities" and it makes for some interesting reading. Alabama is ranked 4th among SEC schools at 83rd nationally. It's not a surprise that Vanderbilt tops the list of SEC schools. It may be a bit surprising, though, to see the balance of the list:
  1. Vanderbilt (18)
  2. Florida (49)
  3. Georgia (59)
  4. Alabama (83)
  5. Auburn (96)
  6. South Carolina (108)
  7. Tennessee (108)
  8. Kentucky (116)
  9. Arkansas (125)
  10. LSU (130)
So, LSU gets it rough from US News. Could be worse - Ole Miss and Mississippi State are both "Tier 3" schools. That means they're not in the top 50%. Ouch. And yes, I know that technically South Carolina and Tennessee are tied at 108. I broke the tie with orange. (HT to The Wiz of Odds)
